Northbay Community Initiative
The initiative have undertaken a huge range of works to improve
community facilities in the north of Barra. 2005/06 saw a list of 24
objectives set, most of have been achieved ahead of schedule. To date the
initiative has raised in excess of £150 000 towards projects.
This level of success can be put down to an active, organised,
hardworking committee, and broad community backing.
Projects include; renovating Northbay hall, building Am Bothan, renewable
energy, environmental renewal projects, organising community activities
and events, such as the Fete.

Vatersay Association
On Vatersay the various initiatives have centered on providing facilities for
community and protection of the coastal environment from erosion
pressures. In this situation crofting interests work very closely with the
broader community.
In Vatersay a core of volunteers work to assist the broader community from
whom they receive wide spread support. Projects Include: beach access
planning, hall upgrades, renewable energy, recycling and Vatersay Raiders
Exhibition.
Eoligarry Village Association
Eoligarry is a small community at the north of Barra. The village
association was recently formed to try to improve facilities and services
within the village. A project list was put forward mid 2007.
Iomairt aig an Oir Projects
Through Iomairt aig an Oir, Community Groups can be assisted in a
number of ways. Groups have access to the Local Development Officer,
who can undertake tasks to assist the group, e.g. fund raising. Groups can
access a small consultancy fund to assist with project planning and
feasibility and they can access development funding, a limited fund
available to help initiate prospective projects.
